What we stand for

Our Academic Model

We believe that learning is a personal process and so we want each child to write their own personal story: emotionally, socially and academically.

We use a blended approach to classroom instruction combining elements from both mainstream teaching and home-schooling models. This way we achieve a high level of personalisation and can move through educational material at a much faster pace, allowing for more time to be dedicated to challenging subjects such as Mathematics and English. If a student is ready to move on, time is not wasted on redundant or repetitive lessons.

The use of technology enables the customisation of material wherever possible to enhance the learning experience. Emphasis on one-to-one interactions enables our teachers to identify each student’s unique strengths and challenges.

Our Curriculum and Accreditation

While aligned to the National Curriculum (CAPS), our curriculum is significantly enhanced to offer a learning experience comparable to international best practise. We are committed to academic excellence but cannot ignore the role of holistic development and its contribution in achieving success.

Our Grade 1 – 9 programme is currently registered with Impaq, and we decided on their programme as it offers us the flexibility to fast-track certain learning areas, while allowing us to linger on or revisit more challenging subjects.

Our Grade 10 – 12 programme is registered with the exam board SACAI.

The South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI) is one of the largest independent assessment bodies in South Africa, which together with the Department of Basic Education, functions within the regulatory framework as mandated by the Ministry of Education.

Again, SACAI offers us greater flexibility in curriculum delivery without compromising on curriculum outcomes or the assessment thereof. The support which SACAI offers both teachers and students cannot be overlooked and is a key consideration in the decision to be registered with them.

The Cambridge International Curriculum is optional and is offered from Grade 7 onwards.

In the coming months, Advanced College will also be applying to the Department of Education for accreditation.  This accreditation will not change the way that we deliver our programmes, but will impact on our systems from an administrative perspective.

Advanced College is also registered with SAGE PASTEL and FASSET SETA enabling students who wish to pursue a career in accounting or administration the opportunity to begin training in the use of Sage Pastel Accounting from Grade 8 onwards.

Our flexi-school programme offers those students who wish to start training in their respective vocations at school level, the opportunity to do so.  A high school student who wishes to complete a PPL (Private Pilot’s License) while at school, can schedule his/her school programme to accommodate flight hours. So too can a golfer or tennis player who aims to compete professionally, plan a school schedule around training and coaching sessions.

Defining success

We welcome, nurture and encourage uniqueness, which is why we understand that grade scores on standardized academic assessments hardly give you as a parent, a clear perspective of your child’s capabilities. As a team of professionals, we are trained to monitor and assess your child emotionally, socially and academically. Open and frequent communication between parent and school is encouraged. ‘If we don’t hear from you, know that you will hear from us!’
